USA/Mexico - Little Andrea Michelle Reyes was thought to have disappeared for 26 years. Then suddenly there was a surprising breakthrough in the case.

In 1999, Reyes was not even two years old when she was abducted from her home in the US state of Connecticut, as The Guardian reported. Her father was terribly worried. A large-scale search began immediately, but the girl could not be found.

The only clue: both the officials and the little girl's family were certain that Reyes' mother, Rosa Tenorio, must have taken the child to Mexico. She did not have custody of the girl at the time.

The case surrounding the missing one-year-old eventually became a cold case. However, her father did not give up, and the officials also kept Reyes in mind. And that led to new technology being used in 2023 to age the girl's image. So the officials had a rough idea of what she might look like today.

And that would eventually lead to the big breakthrough in the case.

26 years after Reyes was abducted from her parents' home, investigators became aware of a young woman in Mexico who exactly matched the description of the missing woman.

A short time later, a DNA test was carried out and lo and behold: this was indeed the missing Andrea Michelle Reyes. She is now 27 years old and still lives in her mother's home country.

It is unclear whether she still has a relationship with her abductor. The investigation into the case is still ongoing.

But one thing is certain: Her father can hardly wait to finally hold his daughter in his arms again after almost three decades.
