Zhang Lei from Nanyang, China, lived for 34 years completely unaware of his real identity and what had happened to him as a child.

All of this only came to light during a heated argument with his mother, who suddenly told him that he was not her biological child but had been adopted. But that was not all.

After this revelation, the now 36-year-old decided to move out of his parents' house with his pregnant wife. He then went in search of his real parents.

"My wife always told me: 'You should at least find out where you come from'," the Chinese man recalls, according to News18.

What he didn't realize was that his biological mother was also trying to find him. The woman named Xiong Lianxian had never given up hope that her son Liu Weiwei, who disappeared 100 kilometers away in Hubei province over three decades ago, was still alive.

However, Zhang then made the decisive discovery himself via an online platform, where experts started investigations into his ancestors. In doing so, they came across a possible relative, through whom they finally ended up with mother Xiong Lianxian. A DNA test then confirmed that Zhang was her biological son.

When they were reunited, the joy on both sides was understandably huge.

The 34-year-old learned from his mother that he had been reported missing in 1991 after he suddenly disappeared. At the time, his older sister Liu Yan had had to look after him and the other children, as their parents had been very busy in their oil business. When Liu returned from fetching water that day, there was no trace of his two-year-old brother.

The police then discovered that the boy had been abducted. Despite an extensive search, the investigators were unable to find Zhang again. He grew up with the other family in Henan province.

Zhang was also stunned by the fact that his biological sister had been living nearby.

Liu Yan had moved to Nanyang 34 years ago and lived in a house just 500 meters away from Zhang's home. Nevertheless, the siblings had never met.
